The Process of Cleaning ductwork

ductworkResidential and light commercial: The power vac truck mount used to clean your ductwork utilizes negative air pressure movement throughout the duct system. This method powerfully removes impurities and disposes of them in a truck mount outside of your home or business resulting in a cleaner, healthier environment.

The first step to the duct cleaning process is to perform a Video Inspection to determine whether or not duct cleaning is necessary.

  • Heating or a/c is turned off
  • access hole is cut
  • The vac is then connected and powered on to start the negative pressure within the ducts.
  • vent covers are removed
  • To increase are movement we place foam core boards at the vent openings and as a result air is able to move backward through the duct system.
  • We then utilize a variety of brushes or air blast assemblies to loosen debris throughout the duct system. The loosened debris is then caught in the vac's air flow and brought outside.
  • After cleaning we use Oxine an E.P.A registered product and fog the ductwork. Oxine kills fungus and bacteria on contact and then evaporates.
  • Next we turn off the vac and close the access openings with the proper material.
  • Vent covers replaced
  • Once the system is restored we test for proper air flow
  • Air filter Measurements are taken and noted in your customer file for future maintenance.

Portable Method with HEPA Vacs - Used in multi-story apartments and commercial buildings
  • Air conditioning system is turned off.
  • Vent covers are removed and cleaned.
  • We then insert long aluminum extensions that extend through the entire length of the ducts. At the end of each extension are soft brushes used to clean the duct surface without tearing fiberglass.
  • Oxine an E.P.A registered product is used to fog the duct system and kills fungus and bacteria on contact then evaporates. Above the air handler is manually cleaned with portable vacuum equipment and decontaminated.
  • All access openings are properly closed.
  • The air handler unit case is cleaned and treated with Oxine to decontaminate any mold, fungus or bacteria that may remain and the blower motor is inspected and cleaned if needed.
  • Vent covers are reinstalled.
  • Once the system is restored we test for proper air flow
  • Air filter Measurements are taken and noted in your customer file for future maintenance.

Source Removal: The process to remove dirt, debris, allergens and dust from your ductwork is source removal. Typical HVAC systems consist of a series of ducts that carry heated or cooled air from the furnace/air conditioning throughout your home or building. This air supply network utilizes a main duct that carries air to smaller ducts which then distributes the heated or cooled air to the appropriate location.
